Mr. Kerr will probably retire in 1925, at

the age of 55, by which time the services of the Probationer to be supplied this year will be available. His present salary is £600 per annum, and the additional emoluments

which he will receive as Assistant Superintendent of Police

would be a suitable recognition of his long and valuable service. I propose that on retirement he should be granted a pension in accordance with the ordinary pension rules.

I propose further to appoint Divisional

Inspector Robert Macdonald to be Chief Inspector on Mr.

Kerr's promotion, with effect from the same date.

these two appointments by telegraph in order to allow of their inclusion in the Estimates for 1923.

I have the nonour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servant,

Chewlevem

Officer Administering the Government.
